Sophomore point guard Chris Paul led Wake Forest to a 103-57 victory over USC-Upstate and older brother C.J. Thursday night in the Demon Deacons opening exhibition game of the 2004-05 season. With a couple hundred family and friends in attendance, Chris scored 11 points, added nine assists and recorded six steals.<P>
Five other Deacons registered double digit efforts including junior Trent Strickland
. The forward came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, including six boards on the offensive end.
Junior Justin Gray led all scorers with 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 behind the extended 3-point line.
Sophomore Kyle Visser came off the bench and finished one rebound shy of another double-double. The center scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked two shots and picked up three steals.
Junior Eric Williams scored 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while senior Taron Downey went 6-for-10 from the floor on his way to scoring 13 points.
The Spartans' Paul scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds and had two steals. Guard Richie Stevens led USC-Upstate with 11 points and Luke Payne also reached double figures with 10.
Wake Forest will play its final exhibition game next Thursday, Nov. 11 in Joel Coliseum against Winston-Salem State. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 7 p.m.
