His visit to Winston-Salem was a great visit according to Russell and made it tough for the Yellow Jackets to overcome. "I hung out with Matt Robinson, the defensive end," he said. "He took me around and showed me a good time but most importantly in the mornings and afternoons I was impressed with the campus and the type of student that goes there, a very motivated and successful kid. The same thing is true with the football players, it's what Wake is all about, hard workers and smart kids."
Russell, who had offers from Central Florida, Louisville, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest, committed to Coach Elrod tonight, much to the delight of the coaching staff. "I called up Coach Elrod and right after Coach Elrod I [talked to] the d-line coach and he was excited and glad to have me aboard. It was good. Coach Elrod said Coach Grobe would give me a call sometime soon and he would be excited."
With Russell's decision to be a Demon Deacon, the 6'4, 245-pound prospect has a big weight off of his shoulders. "It's a relief," Russell said. "I don't have the people calling me and have to hear everything. It feels great to have it all over with."
Russell will sign with the Demon Deacons on Februrary 2nd.
