Thacker One To Watch In '06

The state of Florida produces hundreds of Division I signees each February. Among those expected to sign from the class of 2006 is Budd Thacker, a lineman from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida, the same high school as 2005 Deacon signee Kevin Harris.

"We've got a couple kids [in the class of 2006,"] Seminole High School head coach Mick Harris said. "It won't be as thick in DI prospects next year, but I've got a couple and a couple of intelligent kids who will do well."

Perhaps Coach Harris' top prospect in the class of 2006 is Budd Thacker. "He was a first team all-county player on both sides of the line and first team all-district and he's going to go somewhere," Coach Harris noted. "He's 6'4, 250 and very quick. He'll be the leader in that class. Budd's an offensive lineman and defensive lineman but may play some stand up inside linebacker in some schemes next year and even defensive end."

Coach Harris believes that Thacker will be on defense at the college level. "I think he's going to be a D player at the next level," said Harris. "He's not going to be a big 300 pound kid. He'll be 270-280 and very quick. I'm hoping he'll be like Mike McCrary was for the Deacons. He's going to be down on size but up on speed and quickness."

Though his recruitment has just begun, Thacker is already receiving interest from many of the top schools around the country. "He's hearing from a lot of schools. He's on Wake's list already. He gets mail from Virginia Tech where his dad played and graduated from. His mom's a Miami grad and he's hearing from them." Thacker has also heard from Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Notre Dame, and others.

At this point, Thacker is open to all schools that would like to get involved in his recruitment. His top three, however, are Miami, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.
