Skeen Commits!

Jamie Skeen is off the board. Over the weekend, the Charlotte area standout decided he'll play in the ACC after making an unofficial visit.

Jamie Skeen, a 6-foot-8, Top 100 prospect out of Charlotte-area power North Mecklenburg High is headed to Wake Forest. Skeen picked the Demon Deacons over Florida after visiting campus again this past weekend.

"After the game he and Skip [Prosser] talked and I guess it would be a verbal commitment if anything," Eric Skeen, Jamie's father said. "He's just a junior so it's a verbal commitment."

Wake Forest had actively pursued Skeen, often sending the head coach to see him. For Skeen, the Deacons were extremely attractive.

"To me, I guess it was the right fit," Eric Skeen said. "He really likes Coach Prosser. Every time he went up there he treated him real nice. He likes Coach Gaudio and the staff."

This year, Skeen is averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds a game for coach Duane Lewis. The conference tournament begins this weekend but North Mecklenburg has its sights set on greater things behind Skeen's play.

For Skeen's family, having one of their own close to home and in the ACC, it doesn't get any better.

"It was going to be an ACC school anyway, but to stay in the state and it's just an hour and 10 minutes away, that's even better," Skeen's father said. "The ACC, that's the best league out there so anytime ACC schools are recruiting you, it makes you proud. But it's just the beginning and he's got to maintain his grades. It's just nice to have that pressure off of you."
