Ohio OL Has Deacon Ties

During football season, Ohio prospect D.J. Burris was on-campus visiting the Wake Forest football program. Though Ohio is not necessarily a hotbed for Wake Forest football recruiting, Burris does have a connection to the Wake Forest program.

His high school football coach is Mike Mauk, father of Deacon quarterback Ben Mauk. D.J. Burris attends Kenton High School, the same high school Ben Mauk attended. Due to this connection, Wake Forest has been on this offensive lineman for a long time.

Though Burris moves well, he has proven his strength lately. "D.J. Burris is doing tremendous," Mike Mauk said. "He won the big school Unlimited Weight Class [earlier this month] with a 575 pound squat, 575 pound deadlift, and 385 pound bench press."

Burris, who holds a state record with a 610 pound squat, is not only strong, but also moves well according to Coach Mauk. "He is remarkably strong and more importantly, very athletic with good feet. I am amazed at the level of interest shown around the country in him."

This past year, Burris took visits to the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, and Wake Forest. According to Coach Mauk, Wake Forest is still in the picture for him and continues to stay in touch.

Burris, who has started since his freshman season, is also a good student and will have no trouble qualifying.
