Johnson Says He'll Visit Three

Guard Marques Johnson out of Indiana says he's got a few schools that he'll definitely visit. We caught up with the Fort Wayne standout this week and discussed his recruitment.

For Marques Johnson, the college selection process boils down to a few simple principles. "I'm looking for a spot where I'm comfortable I can come in and contribute early," Johnson said. "I need a place that needs me rather than wants me."

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Fort Wayne (Ind.) Snider is ranked No. 44 in's 2006 rankings. We've evaluated him as a shooting guard and perimeter player most of the time, but Johnson says there's another position he's most comfortable playing.

"I'd probably say the point. The point usually controls the game and I feel comfortable with the ball in my hands."

To make the transition complete, Johnson understands there are areas to improve. "There's a lot I have to work on. I'd say I need to stay low on the dribble and get quicker."

Colleges are recruiting Johnson to play a combo role and both guard positions, and that's fine by him. "The schools that are recruiting me pretty hard now are Oklahoma, Illinois, Georgetown, Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech," Johnson said. According to Johnson, all have offered except for Wake and Tech.

Furthermore, the 22-point per game scorer said that he'll likely take officials to Illinois, Georgetown and Oklahoma. The No. 1 Illini is definitely in the mix. "They're one of my favorites," Johnson said. "I spent a lot of time on their campus and I'm most familiar with them."
