Thomas Wants The Number One Spot

Lance Thomas is rated among the top players in the country and his recruitment is start to get real hot. While he recieves so much attention he feels he has a lot of work to do.

While Lance Thomas is rated 7th at his position and 14th in his class, he's not satisfied.

The 6-foot-8 small forward led his high school to a State A Prep championship this year and averaged a double-double putting up 18 points and 10 rebounds a game. But Thomas, who plays at St. Benedict Prep, says he still has a lot to accomplish before he'll be content.

"I'm just trying to be the best that I can be," Thomas asseverated. "My goal is to be the number one player and I have a lot of work to do...I see myself as a very high prospect, but I still have a lot of work to do. I'm going to try to go for the number one spot."

According to Thomas, he still has room for improvement, but the college coaches must think he's developing nicely. He's had a number of visitors the past few weeks including Final Four participant, Louisville.

Louisville is among a few shools that are recruiting him very hard right now, the other three being Arizona, Duke, and Villanova. While those schools may, be recruiting him the hardest, there are plenty of other schools that are involved with Thomas including Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, UConn, and North Carolina to name a few.

Thomas insisted that he is wide open at this point and declined to give a list of schools that he is looking at in particular. He said he hopes to trim his list and take official visits at the end of the summer.

One school that is hoping to receive a visit from Thomas is Wake Forest, so what do they have to offer? "Great school, it's got great academics, it's a powerhouse in basketball, and being in the ACC is a big factor," Thomas explained.

What is Thomas looking for in a school? Most prospects look at different aspects of each college, but for Thomas, he's looking for a place that can pull every ounce of talent from his body.

"I'm looking for a good atmosphere. I'm looking for a school that is going to push me hard," Thomas replied. I don't want to underachieve at the next level. I don't want be the guy that people were like he was pretty good in high school, but in college he fell off. I don't want to be that type of player."

With such a process, Thomas doesn't want to get ahead of himself, which is why he's taking his time. He's receiving interest from a number of schools and he is enjoying it all.

"Yeah it's a once in a life time thing. I enjoy it but I don't let it get to head because I still have a lot of things to work on."
