Gattis may be the top track athlete in the state. As far as the best times for the entire season go, unofficially, Gattis had the top times in North Carolina in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Gattis' 10.84 100-meter time was tied for the top in the 100 while Gattis stood alone in the 200 with a time of 21.89.
He also fared well in the hurdles where he was ninth in the state with a time of 14.88 in the 100-meter. He was third in the 300-meter hurdles as well with a time of 39.44.
His teammate at Northern Durham, James Adams, ran a 50.14 in the 400-meter, good enough for the second best time of the year in the state.
As a team, Northern Durham's 400-meter relay ran a 42.35 best time for second in the state this season. In the 800-meter this season, Northern's best time of 1:28.84 was the best in the state.
