World's Greatest Alumni Game Recap

Three former Wake Forest stars took part in Saturday night's ACC Alumni game put together by The Carolina Pros and held at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.

Rodney Rogers, Chris Paul, and Josh Howard played for the ACC Stars in a 139-126 losing effort against the Carolina Pros team. Although players were somewhat competitive at times, the ultimate goal of the game, to provide entertainment for fans and raise money for diabetes research, was certainly achieved.

Rogers, Paul, and Howard all started for the ACC Stars, who trailed 67-59 at halftime. Although no official statistics were reported, DeaconSports kept unofficial stats on the three former Deacons.

Josh Howard shot 7-15 from the floor for 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal. All of Howard's points came in the first half.

Chris Paul shot 3-6 from the field for 6 points. He added 6 assists, 1 rebound, and 2 steals. Although Paul was aggressive at times, he spent most of the game looking for open teammates.

Rodney Rogers shot 3-10 from the field including one three pointer. He ended the game with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.

After the game, DeaconSports had a chance to speak with Chris Paul about beginning his career in the NBA and his thoughts on Wake Forest's upcoming basketball season.

Paul appears ready to head to New Orleans and get the season underway. "I'm excited. I'll probably head out September 5th or so. Coach said they want me to come out there and get some workouts."

Although he is moving on, Paul has not forgotten the team he left behind at Wake Forest and is optimistic about the Deacons 2005-2006 season. "I'm excited [about the upcoming season,"] he said. "We lost a lot of people, but I think we brought in some good freshmen. If everybody listens to coach they'll be successful."

As for Paul's opinion on the game of Demon Deacon freshman point guard Sharmaine Dukes and whether Dukes will see a lot of playing time this season, Paul says "Oh yeah. I like him. He has a great head on his shoulders."
