Skip Prosser met with Jonathan Mandeldove on Friday to persuade Mandeldove to join the Deacs. Evan Daniels, of Deaconsports.com, got the scoop from the 7-footer.
After deciding VCU wasn't the best place for him, Jonathan Mandeldove
went out and made an even bigger name for himself. The 7-footer showed off his abilities at a number of top events this summer, including the adidas Superstar Camp and adidas Showtime tournament, and now is being looked at by a number of high major schools.
Wake Forest liked him so much this summer that they offered him a scholarship. On Friday Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser met with the 14th best center in the class of 2006.
"Skip Prosser came in and we had a one on one conversation with Coach Battle on the side too," Mandeldove said. "I checked out basically what they had to say, and I checked out the highlight tape. It wasn't bad, it wasn't bad at all. I liked it, yeah I liked it."
So what all did Coach Prosser have to say?
"He really just told me that I'm the last piece they were missing in the recruiting process. That they need me and they want me to come in and check out the place," Mandeldove explained. "I'm looking forward to checking out the place probably the following weekend, not this weekend but the next weekend."
But Wake Forest hasn't been the only school to come see Mandeldove. Virginia and Pittsburgh both stopped by and he expects a few more visitors before it's all said and done.
He also said that he hopes to narrow his list down in a few weeks. Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Virginia, UConn, Memphis, Miami, Alabama, Texas, and Missouri are all recruiting him.
