2003 Recruiting Profile: Carlos Washington

After posting nine interceptions as a sophomore, opposing coaches learned their lesson and threw away from the hard hitting safety his junior year. That does not change the fact that he's one of the top safety prospects in the south and a prime Wake Forest target.

One thing for sure, is that you can't call coaches in North Carolina crazy. After posting 130 tackles and 9 interceptions as a sophomore, free safety Carlos Washington saw his number of picks drop to 3 as a junior. "Yeah, I had 9 when I was in 10th grade, but they kind of quit throwing it my way this year," Washington said with a laugh. "I only ended up with 3 this year." Credit the opposing coaches for knowing when to say when.

Assistant Coach Brian Clary said the staff is really high on Washington's abilities. "He's been starting for us since he was a freshman," said Clary. "We play him at free safety so he can roam sideline to sideline. He's one of the best tacklers around. When tackles people, they stay tackled."

Washington has gotten early offers from Wake Forest and North Carolina, but does not list a clear leader at this point. "I like North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Florida, and Oregon right now. I don't really care about staying in state or going out of state. I'm camping at North Carolina for sure, and I might go to Clemson."

With a 320 pound bench press, Washington is physically ready to move on to the college level right now at either free or strong safety, but unfortunately for Crest High School's opposing coaches, they're going to have to spend another year throwing the ball away from Carlos Washington.
