Deacs Eyeing Marshall

As East Carolina continues to apply the pressure, other schools are quickly becoming aware of the overall athletic ability of Dekota Marshall. Before his senior season is complete, Marshall could have a handful of scholarship offers.

"ECU just called, after them Garner-Webb called and offered me, and after them South Carolina called," said Marshall.

"ECU told me I'm still their number one prospect and they still really want me up there. They have four corners graduating, and one of their corners coming back is 5'7" and the other is 5'8" I think. They said I'm bigger and stronger than both of them.

"South Carolina said they want some game tape. Before they can really move on to offer me they need game tape.

"Wake Forest also said they want to offer me, but they don't have game tape. They said I'm nonexistent to their running back coach because he don't have game tape."

Marshall, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder from Jacksonville (N.C.) Southwest Onslow who owns legit 4.4-forty speed, is being recruited for cornerback, safety, tailback, and wide receiver. Although Marshall just wants to be on the field, he enjoys the brute nature of cornerback.

"I like corner," said Marshall. "You get to be more physical at corner."

Marshall, who has rushed 40 times for 352 yards and eight touchdowns, hasn't received too many opportunities to be physical during his senior season.

"I know I have a lot of tackles – I just don't know the stats," said Marshall. "They only time a team has thrown to my side was during the White Oak game. That was the only time and I had two pass breakups. They just don't try to pass to my side – they are probably shook-up. When they try me I'm going to be ready."

Despite the new interest, the Pirates still remain as Marshall's leader.

"ECU is still my favorite," said Marshall. "The other day I got 11 letters from ECU from each different coach, even the head coach Skip Holtz. [The letters] were telling me how much they wanted me."

In the beginning of the season, Marshall unofficially visited East Carolina for their in-state battle with Duke. He plans to return to Greenville on October 1st for the Southern Miss game.
