Quarterback Kyle Ellis passed along the latest news on him this past week. Although baseball has taken up much of his time this month, he noted that he was able to attend the Tommy Knotts QB/WR camp.
Ellis has no offers yet, but has had visitors dropping by often. Duke, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, and William & Mary are some of the schools that have come by to speak with Ellis in the last few weeks.
Kinston native Kyle Ellis is another North Carolina product Wake Forest is showing interest in for 2003. Ellis, a quarterback at Kinston High School, threw for 1,000 yards as a junior.
So far, many colleges have picked up on Ellis' talents and he is beginning to receive mail from various colleges throughout the country. Ellis noted that his "front-runners [are] NC State, Wake Forest, UNC, ECU, and the Naval Academy."
Ellis visited both UNC and NCSU's spring games but was unable to make it to the Wake Forest spring game. The Deacs' spring game conflicted with the NIKE Insiders camp Ellis attended. Ellis has unofficially visited Wake Forest previously, however.
This summer, Ellis stated that he would camp at Wake, State, ECU, and other places.
In the weightroom, Ellis benches 250 and can squat 405 pounds. He is just as strong in the classroom as well, where he has compiled a 4.32 GPA and a 1320 on the SAT.
Currently, Ellis' focus is on baseball season. Following the season, his focus will be back to football with summer camps and next year's football season where his goals are to surpass his 1,000 yard junior season and to help Kinston return to the playoffs. As to what he will do after his senior season is complete, Ellis quipped: "After the season, whatever happens, happens."
Maybe it will just happen in a Deacon uniform.
