In addition, the station will carry the "Deacon Sportspage" call-in shows featuring football coach Jim Grobe and men's basketball coach Skip Prosser, as well as the "Rose Furniture Daily Deacon Report" throughout the year.
"We are delighted to have WHLQ-FM as part of the Wake Forest family," Bill Merrifield, Senior Vice President of ISP Sports, says. "Adding this station to our list of affiliates is a major step in our continued growth of the Wake Forest ISP Sports Network and will provide us a strong presence in the Raleigh area, which is so important to the many Demon Deacon fans there."
Wake Forest is coming off an outstanding 2001-2002 athletic year under its two first-year head coaches. Grobe's football squad compiled a 6-5 record which included victories over North Carolina, Virginia and East Carolina, while Prosser guided his team to 21 wins before losing to Oregon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
ISP Sports, the exclusive multimedia rightsholder for WFU Athletics, is based in Winston-Salem, NC. The company also manages radio networks for Georgia Tech, Marshall, Southern Mississippi, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and the University of Central Florida, covering 11 states and listing nearly 200 affiliates among its total network membership.
