The 6-foot-9, 235-pound South Lakes (Va.) junior big man, who has gone from an obscure big man to once being pursued by many of the top schools in the nation, opens his season on Friday against Oakton High.
``It's kinda fun," Vaughn said of the recruiting process. "I know a lot of kids would love to trade places with me. Whenever I think it's overwhelming, I think back to a year ago when the phone didn't ring."
Vaughn's list is still lengthy, but he admits that a few ACC schools are at or near the top: North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, N.C. State, Maryland and Virginia Tech are all in the mix.
He also lists Illinois, Ohio State, Georgetown, Boston College, Notre Dame and Kentucky.
Vaughn, who has a 3.6 GPA, has been to a Maryland scrimmage and attended the Duke blue-white game. He also said he has plans to return to Duke for a regular-season conference game sometime this season, nut he won't trim his school list down to 10 until he watches more games.
``I don't want to do it based on what I hear," Vaughn said. "I'd rather do it after watching the teams play, see their styles and the coaches and the players."
``I want to make a decision by the start of AAU ball," he added. "I'm going to try and chop in down to 10 or so in January or February, then get it to seven or five or then choose."
``Right now everyone is pretty much in the same boat," Vaughn continued. "I just need to see what the best situation is for me."
