Caldwell Commits!

Oxford, Alabama punter Dan Caldwell committed to Wake Forest Wednesday afternoon, just a few days after he took his official visit to Winston-Salem. Caldwell spoke with DeaconSports shortly after his commitment to Wake Forest.

It was just around 5:00 when Dan Caldwell officially decided that he wanted to be a Demon Deacon. "Actually to be honest, I was sitting there staring at the ceiling a little before 5:00 and I said "I want to be a Wake Forest football player," you know," Caldwell said. "I immediately picked up the phone and called Coach Lambert and let him know."

As was to be expected, Coach Lambert was thrilled with the news that Caldwell wanted to commit. "He was very excited," Caldwell noted. "He said Coach Grobe would be really excited about it also. He said that they had been talking about it that Sunday after I left and that they really liked me and wanted me there and they felt I could pick up where [Ryan Plackemeier] left off. He said he would immediately call Coach Grobe."

With his decision made, Caldwell can now look forward to playing in the ACC and getting a full-ride scholarship to one of the top schools in the nation. "Academics [at Wake Forest] are second to none and that's an important deciding factor to me because academics are a big part of my life. On top of that, to play in the ACC, perhaps the #1 conference in the nation…"

With his commitment, Caldwell, who has already qualified for admission to Wake Forest, becomes the third prospect from the weekend to commit to Wake Forest. Linemen Teddy Tomlin and Cannon Gaskin have also committed to Wake Forest.
