Carter: Wake Forest Bound

Wake Forest showed defensive tackle Mike Carter the love – and that love was given right back. Thanks in part to three Demon Deacon coaches visiting the Memphis native this week, Carter decided that Wake Forest was the place for him.

"The fact that they want you bad enough that they send the head coach, defensive coordinator, and position coach down shows that they really want you," Mike Carter said. "On top of that, I liked what I was hearing about academics and the fact that they're a good school to go to. It's a place that you can get a great education from and they have good football team and it's a place where NFL scouts will come."

One of Carter's major factors in his decision was the fact that the Wake Forest coaches were extremely straight forward in their discussions with him. "Their honesty," Carter said in regards to the main factor he loved the coaches at Wake Forest. "They're straight forward with you. They say some stuff that may make some people think ‘I don't want to go here.' Like they'll tell you they're strict on their players and don't put up with stuff. But I'm used to that..."

While Carter was extremely impressed with the Deacs, he also heard pitches from Tennessee State, Louisville, Arkansas State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss before the Memphis, Tennessee native committed to Wake Forest. Arkansas State, Tennessee State and Ole Miss offered the 6'2 ½, 290-pounder.

While his football season is over, Carter is currently working out and is competing with the track team once again. Carter's events include the shot put and discuss at Melrose High School in Memphis. He also plans to run during track to keep his speed up and will continue to work out as well. Carter currently maxes out at 350-pounds on the bench, squats 620-pounds, and can power clean 225-pounds.

While he has yet to visit Wake Forest, he does plan to do so in the near future. "I'm going from January 6th through the 8th," he said. "They're supposed to be sending me tickets to the Duke game so I plan to go to that."
