The 6-foot, 165-pound Franklin High (Wash.) standout doesn't have a clear answer – other than the fact that his AAU team, Rotary Select, didn't have much size and failed to advance in most of its tournaments this past summer.
``We were small," he said.
Now Overton is trying to make up for it and a 21-point, 5-assist performance in a 74-59 victory against Garfield was a good start.
Overton will get a chance to go up against some of the elite teams in the nation next week at the Holiday Prep Classic in San Diego – where Franklin opens against De La Salle.
Overton is quick, aggressive and the lefty can create shots for himself – and his teammates – with his ability to penetrate into the lane and cause havoc. He still needs to work on his decision-making and also become stronger so he can finish at the rim more consistently.
For now, Overton said that Wake Forest, Washington and Washington State were the ones the most aggressive in pursuit.
``I want to come in and get playing time," said Overton, who moved from Portland when he was in the eighth grade. "I want to see action as a freshman."
