Jasper Set For Wake Visit

A big senior year for DeRon Jasper has brought the 6'3, 195-pound athlete big-time offers in recent weeks. Thanks to an impressive senior performance, Jasper has earned offers from schools across the east coast including members of the ACC and SEC.

"I had an excellent season," DeRon Jasper said. "I had a breakout season I guess you would say. I believe I had 68 tackles, two interceptions and 400 rushing yards. I was named All-County, the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) named me All-Northside, and I was All-State honorable mention."

Jasper, who led Dunwoody High School to a 5-5 record, still believes he has room to improve as he moves forward to the college game. "Not fully," Jasper noted when asked if he had reached his potential. "There's still room to grow for the next level."

While the potential is there for Jasper to shine at the next level, it remains to be seen which school he will pick to showcase his skills. "Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, East Carolina, and a newcomer is Temple," he said of schools he is eyeing. "I've already visited Kentucky and Georgia Tech. Wake Forest I have the next weekend."

Jasper talked about each of his visits. "Kentucky was my first visit. I got a look at the situation and I really enjoyed their campus, their life, and the players. I actually saw the Kentucky – UNC game and that was a big plus. The coaches were cool and I enjoyed it...I actually learned some stuff about their campus that I didn't know before. Of course their coaches are great."

While Jasper is already familiar with Atlanta, he did continue to build his relationship with the Georgia Tech staff including Coach Gailey when he visited Tech in December. "With Georgia Tech, I like Coach Gailey the most. He's instrumental in this. I talk to him a lot and that was a great trip."

Next up is a visit to Wake Forest this weekend. "Since [Wake Forest] started recruiting me this past year I've been looking forward to it. They've been hyping the[Duke – Wake Forest basketball] game. I've heard great things about the school from my coaches because they go visit at least once a year and they've given me an idea of how I will fit in there."

After his visit to Wake Forest, he may take a visit to East Carolina followed by a potential visit to Temple. Jasper currently holds offers from Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Temple, and ECU along with several D1-AA schools.

Jasper, who is fully qualified by NCAA standards, has no set date on when he will make his college decision. "I was going to say that after the Wake Forest trip I was going to choose Wake Forest or Georgia Tech, but I might hold off until I'm truly comfortable," he noted.
