Stamper: Combine Standout

West Forsyth safety John Stamper had a nice day on the practice fields at Duke University on Sunday. While attending the All-American Combine in Durham, Stamper performed well and showed he belonged as one of the top recruits in the state.

While in Durham, John Stamper already had an offer from a Division I-A school heading into the combine in Wake Forest, he truly proved his worth on Sunday. At a combine with dozens and dozens of top prospects with D-I offers, Stamper did well in drills and one-on-ones. In the end, the staff and combine coaches voted Stamper to a spot on the first team All-Combine team.

On the day, Stamper's numbers included measuring 6', 185 with an impressive 4.53 forty, one of the top times on the day for anyone. He also recorded a vertical jump of 31 inches, and a 8'10" broad jump. "It's gone good," Stamper said of his performance during the combine on Sunday. "Hopefully after this I'll get some more looks."

Stamper, who also holds a baseball offer from UNC-Greensboro, is receiving scores of interest from schools around the country, but three schools are standing out the most early on. "Right now, just Wake has offered," Stamper noted. "Clemson and Carolina [are others I'm interested in.] Probably Wake is recruiting me the hardest."

With friend and high school teammate Kyle Jarrett committed to Wake, the Deacs offering, and Wake's heavy interest, the Deacs currently lead for Stamper. "The coaches are real nice," Stamper said of the Wake staff. "It's like family there. Right now, they're #1 on my board."
