Deacs In Race For Washington

Wake Forest is in the hunt for 6-1 safety Carlos Washington, the ninth rated safety in the nation as ranked by DeaconSports talked with Carlos this weekend about his recruitment.

Shelby native Carlos Washington is one of North Carolina's top defensive prospects from the class of 2003. Using his great athletic ability, Washington made 107 tackles and intercepted three passes during his junior season at Shelby Crest.

So far, North Carolina, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Maryland, and Western Carolina have begun to recruit Washington. "I don't have any written offers yet," Washington noted, "but I'm hoping to get some soon."

When asked about his favorites at this point, Washington quickly replied with one school. "North Carolina."

"I've visited North Carolina," Washington continued, "and I liked it because they have a good foot program and take care of their players. I just like the school. It's a great place."

While Washington has no more visits planned at this point, he does plan to visit other schools including Wake Forest in the future. "I've talked to the coaches [at WFU] and they're cool, but I haven't been there to visit yet."

Washington noted that he runs a 4.5 40, benches 320, and squats 415. Stay tuned to for the latest on Carlos Washington.
