Blair and Deacs Share Interest

Each evaluation period coaches find new players to recruit and keep tabs on. In the April evaluation period the Demon Deacons must have spotted Pittsburgh (PA)Schenley's DeJuan Blair.

Wake Forest is in with some quality big men in the class of 2007. Julian Vaughn, J.J. Hickson and Anthony McClain are names that Demon Deacon fans are familiar with, but the Wake Forest coaching staff has begun to show some interest in 6-7, 270-pound DeJuan Blair.

Blair has made a name for himself on the AAU circuit this summer playing along side top-10 talent Herb Pope, with the Pittsburgh Jots. Due to two ACL injuries and missing the past two summers Blair has flown under the radar, but according to Ken Oskie, a Jots assistant coach, he has become one of the main attractions.

"Every time out there they were coming to see Herb, and now they aren't just coming to see Herb anymore they are coming to see DeJuan too."

And rightfully so, Blair put up strong numbers at Pittsburgh (PA) Schenley (18 points and 12 boards) and he's finally receiving the attention he deserves from college coaches.

Schools like Indiana, Miami, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Akron, Rutgers, Tennessee, Xavier, Florida and Texas have all show a lot of interest. One other school that Blair said has shown a lot of recent interest is Wake Forest.

So is there mutual interest between Blair and the Demon Deacons?

"Wake Forest they have a lot of my interest. I like them because the academic side of it's excellent. I haven't visited it, but the way they have talked about it I love the academic side of it.

Blair said that he plans on narrowing down his list towards the end of the summer and would like to make a decision sometime during the season. But for now he's just going to enjoy the attention and continue to impress coaches with his work ethic.

"It's real exciting for me and my family right now," Blair said. "All the coaches have been calling and I've been getting all the looks and I'm trying to move up in the rankings."
