Saunders Names Favorites

Last season, Wake Forest received a commitment from Durham Riverside wide receiver Marshall Williams early in the process. This season, the Deacs are after Riverside tight end/defensive end Wesley Saunders and teammate Marshall Williams is helping the Deacs' cause.

Wesley Saunders attended the Shrine Bowl Invitation Only combine this past weekend and did well playing with the best prospects from the state of North Carolina in the class of 2007. "It's going pretty good," Williams said of his combine performances. "I haven't caught many passes or had many thrown to me. I've come out here, worked hard, done well, and hoping to impress the coaches and make the team."

Along with the combine, Saunders has kept busy in recent months taking visits to several schools around the area. "This summer's been pretty good so far," he said. "I've already been to State, Clemson, and UNC. Hopefully I'll be able to make it up to Wake pretty soon."

Along with making visits, Saunders has also earned several new offers. He currently holds offers from the likes of Louisville, Wake Forest, Clemson, N.C. State, North Carolina, and East Carolina. "My favorites would be Carolina and Wake and probably Clemson," he noted.

Saunders spoke about his interest in Wake Forest. "This guy right here [Marshall Williams] is my best friend and I pretty much trust his judgment," Saunders noted. "For him to commit to Wake before his senior season says a lot. That commitment he has to Wake. Coach Mullin, he told me a lot about him and I really like the academic programs at Wake.
