TOC: Wake Targets Final Day; Part II

Earlier this week, DeaconSports wrote up notes on top Deacon prospects from the Tournament of Champions this past weekend. This edition a couple of other prospects including Al-Farouq Aminu, DeAndre Jordan, Jarrett Mann, Marshall Moses, Laval Lucas-Perry, and Keaton Nankivil.

Al-Farouq Aminu, a 2008 power forward prospect, was one of the top 08 prospects at the tournament. He runs the floor well and has ACC caliber written all over him. He also rebounds well and can handle the ball well for a prospect his size – especially considering that he's just 15 years old. Though he listed Wake in some reports, Wake was left off of his list when we spoke with Aminu. "Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, Florida and one or two more I can't remember," Aminu noted when asked for his school list. Sure it's nice to be listed here and there, but don't get your hopes up for Aminu.

2008 Playaz guard Jarrett Mann listed Wake Forest as one of the schools recruiting him. He noted that the Deacs are recruiting him along with Georgetown, Illinois, Texas, Florida, St. Joes, and Rutgers. He claims early offers from Georgetown, Illinois, and Florida.

One more name to watch out for is Laval Lucas-Perry out of Flint, Michigan. He's an impressive '07 point guard who has potential to play high-major if he keeps improving his game. Lucas-Perry played with the Pittsburgh Jots this past weekend and turned some heads.

Another name that has been floating around for years is Marshall Moses. The 6'6 forward is an interesting case. He's obviously talented but the question is where to play him. The D-One Sports prospect doesn't have the quickness at this point to guard the ‘3' or the size to play the ‘4'. He does have good athletic ability and a good shot and, on top of that, has recently been reclassified to the class of 2008. According to his AAU coach, Brian Clifton, Marquette, Wake Forest, Kentucky, and Florida are a few schools showing interest. "I spoke to Wake Forest last week and they're telling me they're pretty interested," Clifton said.

Earlier this week, we wrote about Keaton Nankivil and his game. We were impressed with his ability to finish around the basket, his strength, and his hard play. We also wrote about his visit to Winston-Salem last year after the TOC. It looks like he decided to go ahead and make another visit this year as well. Nankivil visited Wake Forest after finishing up his tournament in the Triangle.

DeAndre Jordan out of the Houston Swoosh AAU program was one of the top prospects we saw at the TOC all weekend. It's no wonder he has offers from anyone he wants an offer from. At this point, Wake Forest is still in the hunt – and in his top ten. He says he likes Wake's coaches, but then again, his AAU coach says that Wake hasn't been contacting him as much, perhaps because they feel they're out of the race with him. Regardless, Jordan will narrow his list in the coming months.
