Deacs Remain Interested In Russell

One of Wake Forest's most highly touted recruits in the '06 class was linebacker Hunter Haynes from Nease High School in St. Augustine, Fla. As '07 recruiting has gotten underway, coach Jim Grobe's staff has shown interest in another Nease player: 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end Danny Russell.'s Jason Mazda caught up with Danny Russell, who said Wake Forest contines to show interest.

Russell has scholarship offers from Hawaii, Louisville and Western Michigan. In addition to Wake Forest, he said he has drawn interest from Northwestern, Connecticut, North Carolina and Duke. He added that Northwestern and Connecticut have been after him the hardest, but when asked who his favorites are, Russell said "I really like Wake if they offer."

"I went up to their camp and their coaches are really nice, and I really like their coaching style," Russell said. "They're quality guys, the facilities are great, and the academics are incredible."

Russell said Haynes' experience so far with the Deacs is a big reason why he likes Wake Forest. "I have a lot of friends that have gone to college for football, and (Haynes) is probably the happiest," Russell said. "He said he loves Wake, it's a quality program, and it's a great education."

When asked what he can bring to a team, Russell said "leadership."

"I'm not the biggest or the strongest or the fastest, but somehow I get it done," he said.
