Deacs Add QB Commitment

3-star quarterback Skylar Jones visited Wake Forest this past weekend on an official visit. During his visit, Jones committed to Wake Forest, adding to Wake's impressive group of commits early in the season.

Skylar Jones was the quarterback the Deacon coaching staff had eyed for their 2007 recruiting class. Sunday, the staff got the word that he would join their recruiting class, becoming the sixth known commitment and third three-star commitment in the Deacs' recruiting class.

"My visit went fine," Jones said. "It went great. I committed to Wake Forest today."

"I have been thinking about it since I got an offer from Wake Forest," Jones noted. "That's where my heart was and where I wanted to go a month ago. I wanted to take my official and bring my mom down. She loved it. Academics wise it fills my needs and it's an all-around great school."

Over the weekend, Jones took a tour of the campus, met players, coaches, and recruits, and attended Wake's football game against Syracuse.

"The game was great," he said. "It was exciting. It was a close game and they pulled away at the end. My mom got a tour of the campus and we hung out and saw some of the players. We met some of the other recruits there too."

The visit gave Jones a chance to meet some of his future classmates in the class of 2007. "As a matter of fact, Brandon Pendergrass committed right after me," he said. "We've been texting each other keeping in contact. We both wanted to talk to each other in person so we made the visit this weekend together. We hit it off and had a great weekend. I also met Doug Weaver at the game. John Stamper and Kyle Jarrett, those guys. It was great getting to meet them."

Jones also had offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Kent State, West Virginia, Buffalo, Tennessee, Purdue, Eastern Michigan, Maryland, Bowling Green, Wake Forest and Marshall before deciding on the Deacs.

Though he had other big-time offers, he won't take any more visits. "That's it for me," he said. "It's one and done. I'll probably come back to another game when they play Virginia Tech or somebody like that."

He joins John Stamper, Kyle Jarrett, Jordan Williams, Brandon Pendergrass and Doug Weaver in Wake's recruiting class.
