Monday's Football Practice Notes

26 freshmen went through their second day of official practices with the football team Monday. The freshmen went through another two-a-day on Monday with a morning and an afternoon practice session.

• Quarterback Zac Taylor out of Oklahoma was very impressive in the few repetitions we saw him go through in the morning practice. He had a good arm and was very accurate with his passes.

• Anders Larson was also impressive passing the ball. He had nice zip on the ball on each of his passes Monday morning. Other quarterbacks that received reps in the morning session were walk-ons Vince Chillura and Matt Daniels.

• Jamil Smith and Bryan Andrews both look like beasts. Andrews, probably the most put together freshman, looks more like a senior than a true freshman. If he can pick up the system well, it will be hard to keep him off the field this year.

• Although listed as a defensive back, athlete Willie Idlette out of Tennessee spent a good deal of time with the offense as a wide receiver in Monday's morning session. Idlette also made a good catch in the afternoon session as a wide receiver.

• Chris Davis ran very good routes in the morning session. Davis made one very good catch on his fingertips downfield. Although he has very good speed, he may need to add a little more weight than he has – while listed at 5-11 182, Davis hardly looks to be that big.

• Overall, the team looked pretty impressive and were fired up during the session. After the morning practice, the team had a quick meeting, chatted amongst themselves, and dispersed until practice resumed at 3:15.

• Northern Durham products James Adams and Josh Gattis both looked very good Monday. Both are amazingly quick for their size. We were as impressed with Gattis Monday as we were at the East-West All-Star game in mid-July. Adams had a nice interception in Monday afternoon's practice session.

• The most impressive thing we saw today was from defensive lineman Daniel Orlebar who showed us he could do a full split. At 6-4 285, that was amazing. Check out the photo galleries for a photo of Orlebar's split.
