Patterson Talks Recruiting

LEXINGTON, KY -- Patrick Patterson scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 6 shots in a 33-point win over Lexington (Ky.) Catholic Saturday afternoon. After the game Patterson discussed his recruitment.

The 6-foot-8, 235-pound PF had a typical Patrick Patterson performance against the Knights. He scored most of his buckets in the paint including a number of athletic alley-oop finishes.

Patterson, who is close to a lock for the McDonald's All-American game, stayed active the entire game, rebounded his area well and affected a number of shots throughout the game.

The big man played in front of a packed house of Kentucky fans at Memorial Coliseum and began his first of a possible six unofficial visits.

After the game Patterson was adamant that he still has Duke, Florida, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia on his list.

Q & A with Patterson

What are you looking for in a school?

Patrick Patterson: Chemistry with the team. Coaching staff and how well we get a long. How well I like the city and activities there. The basketball team, academics and just overall if my family feels the same way.

Do you enjoy the process or is it getting old?

PP: Sometimes it can be a little tough with the coaches calling and texts and the reporters like people from Scout and Rivals sometimes that can be pretty tough. It's a process that you only get to do one time in your life so you just need to enjoy it.

What's the next step in your recruitment?

PP: I hope I'll be able to sort things out. I've been to each school for an official visit and I'm trying to go back for unofficials and see everything else again and see what I like and dislike.

What are your likes and dislike in regards to Wake Forest?

PP: [I like] the coaching staff, the players and the school. With Wake the basketball program isn't that well known and they haven't really done that good the past two or three years.

You mentioned the Deacs haven't played well lately, will that affect your decision?

PP: It'll factor into my decision about how their performance has been the past couple years. But then they have some different recruits coming in that could maybe impact the teams.

What are your likes and dislikes in regards to Duke?

PP: The same thing with Duke they have a great coach. I don't really like the arena that they play in. I know it's a big historic place I just don't like it. It has that old look to it.

What are your likes and dislikes in regards to Kentucky?

PP: "I like coach (David) Hobbs, coach (Tubby) Smith, the basketball team, Rupp Arena and the academics. The things I dislike is I'm not a real big city type person. Kentucky the college probably has 21,000 people and it's still rising. I more like 10,000 or something small like that. I just don't know what kind of activities and things they have to do here yet."

Do you wish the process was over?

PP: I still kind of wish that it was over. I wish that I had decided which school I wanted to go to. I'm still enjoying it right now. It's a process. You got to enjoy it and I'm still having fun for it.

Will you cut down your list before you make a decision?

PP: I'll cut it down gradually before then.

Do you have any other unofficial visits set up?

PP: We are going to the Boston College game at Duke.
