Amherst (VA) Athlete Getting Looks

This past week, Amherst (Va.) High School athlete Derrick McCoy committed to Virginia Tech. Although this concludes the recruitment for one Amherst High prospect, the recruitment of another athlete from the defending Virginia state champions is just getting underway.

Peter Rose, A 6', 185-pound athlete out of Amherst, is one of Virginia's top prospects in the class of 2008. "He was player of the year in the district, region, our by our paper," Amherst coach Scott Abell said. "He also made All-State as a quarterback and also as a defensive back."

Rose, whose older brother signed with James Madison this past year, was a sparkplug for Amherst offensively, rushing for 1,200 yards, throwing for 800, and amassing 29 touchdowns.

"Peter Rose, our quarterback, is getting a lot of attention," Abell noted. "He had a breakout year this year but he's in [Virginia] Tech's database and they're watching film. Navy has jumped all over him. Wake Forest has called about him and really like him. Tech, UVa, they're looking at him. Navy loves him and we're hearing from East Carolina, Marshall -- those are some schools that have really started contacting us."

An ultra-athletic 6', 185-pound prospect with great speed, Rose was named player of the year in his district and region this past year along with All-State honors. Coach Abell noted that, although plans have not been made yet, he will attend several camps this summer at the schools recruiting him the hardest.
