Ellis: Family Ties At Wake Forest

Derricus Ellis, a 6'2, 235-pound linebacker, fullback, and defensive end prospect from Rome, Georgia, is all too familiar with Wake Forest. A prospect with three early offers from BCS schools, Ellis has been to Wake Forest on many occasions visiting his brother and current Demon Deacon defender Chantz McClinic.

Derricus Ellis is one of Georgia's better prospects from the class of 2008. Ellis is being recruited on both side of the ball – as a linebacker/defensive end on defense and as a fullback on offense. "I don't really care which one I play," Ellis noted Thursday evening. "I do like linebacker a little more because I just like to hit."

Most schools are recruiting Ellis on the defensive side of the ball. Early on, Ellis has three offers from ACC & SEC schools. "I have scholarships from Duke, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest," he noted. "I'm getting interest from Alabama, Clemson, and Florida State."

This past year, Ellis has visited Georgia, Clemson, and Wake Forest for unofficial visits. While he has no further unofficial visits at this time, he does plan on working out and going to camps at several schools this summer. "I know I'm going to Clemson and Florida State," he noted. "I'm going up to workout with my brother for a week at Wake Forest too."

Ellis, who amassed 63 tackles on defense as a junior while carrying the ball 85 times for 700+ yards, visited Wake Forest for their spring game this year. "When I went, I got to meet all the coaches and I liked the coaches. They made me fit right in. My brother plays there so that makes it easier . When I went they had the spring game and the crowd turnout there was impressive."

Ellis plans on making camp visits this summer and going through the recruiting process for a few more months. "I just want to go through the summer and a few camps and a few visits. I'll probably make my decision at the end of summer or the beginning of my season."
