Johnson Qualifies For Admission

Recruit James Johnson as well as Wake Forest's basketball staff received the news they were waiting for on Thursday when the 6'8 forward received his test scores. Johnson, one of the top players in the country and a Demon Deacon commitment, received a qualifying score and will enroll at Wake Forest in July.

"I did talk to James [Johnson] today and he's excited as is to be expected," said Johnson's high school coach, Damon Artery. "We knew he was going to get there but had to be patient with the process. The test scores came out today and we're all excited here that he did well."

"Everyone is excited," Coach Artery noted. "Everyone from Wake Forest to Cheyenne is excited for James especially, but also for Wake Forest and Cheyenne East [High School."]

With his latest test scores, Johnson has met NCAA standards to enroll at Wake Forest and will enroll at the beginning of July. "Based on talking to James and the coaches, what's expected is that he'll be there July 7th for 2nd summer session and start July 9th."

Johnson, who averaged 20 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds per game as a senior, is expected to be an important piece of Wake Forest's 2007-2008 team. "James is a very diverse player," Artery said. "He handles well and shoots it well. He's a very athletic kid. One of his best aspects is passing as he has very good vision and he's very unselfish. He's also a hard worker – a great kid and great player."
