Overholt: Would Commit if Wake Offered

Athlete Derrick Overholt has the ability to play on either side of the ball and has attracted the attention of several programs.

Wake Forest is just one of the schools showing interest in the rising senior from Polk County High School in Columbus, N.C.

"I'm actually just getting ready for some one-day camps here shortly," said Derrick Overholt. "I've been talking to a lot of people, and I've made it out to Elon, but I think things are going to pick up now."

Overholt will camp at Wake Forest in July for a day, and he plans on taking similar trips to Buffalo and South Carolina.

"I'm probably hearing more from Buffalo than anybody else, but the others are recruiting me pretty hard too. Wake Forest and South Carolina have talked to me a few times. I know Wake is recruiting me as a free safety, and I'd say that's what most schools like me as. Their coaches have told me that there are a couple of other guys they're waiting on, but I might get an offer depending on what happens."

At 6-3, 180-pounds, Overholt runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and has room to add weight on his frame. If the Demon Deacons were to offer, it would be tough for him to say no.

"Yes, I'd probably commit (when asked if he would give a verbal if Wake offered)," he said. "That's a really good possibility. I just love the size of the school. Of course the academics are excellent and all of the coaches are class acts. All of a sudden they have a great football program. It would be a great place to play football and get an education."
