Lowery Earns Wake Offer

Jarel Lowery has been waiting patiently for more offers as he has been told by a number of programs that he has been close for some time now. The Paterson, N.J., native made the trip to Wake Forest this weekend and showed the staff what he could do in person, which is all they needed to pull the trigger and give him his second written offer to date.

Maryland was the first program to offer jumbo-athlete Jarel Lowery a scholarship all the way back in March and it has been a brutal waiting game for the 6-foot-2, 292-pounder since then, being told by numerous programs that they are very close. This weekend he and his Paterson Catholic teammate Doug Alston went south to show the Wake Forest coaching staff what they could do in person and upon arriving home, Lowery had a present waiting for him in his mailbox.

"I went down to Wake Forest for camp and ended up spending three days down there checking things out," Lowery stated. "When I opened the mailbox today there was a written scholarship offer from them in there, so I am really excited to pick up this offer. I worked out at defensive tackle down there which is where they are recruiting me at and really enjoyed my time on campus."

"I learned so many new things from their defensive line coach Ray McCartney while I was there and was introduced to the entire coaching staff including Head Coach (Jim) Grobe," Lowery added. "They were all great people and after visiting there I could definitely see myself going to school at Wake Forest. Their facilities were really impressive and I especially liked how nice their weight room was. The campus itself was very nice and I guess I just felt really comfortable there. As for playing defensive tackle, I just want to do whatever I can to help my team, so I really don't care which position a school needs me to play."

Lowery is being recruited by a number of schools including, but not limited to, Wake Forest, Maryland, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Connecticut and Pittsburgh right now and has been told that more offers could be coming shortly.

"Our coach handles a lot of our recruiting and has told me a number of programs have said they are close to offering me, but the only two I specifically know about right now are Cincinnati and Michigan State," Lowery explained. "I am still in constant contact with Maryland right now too and will most likely take another visit to College Park at some point."

With offers now in hand from last season's ACC Champions in Wake Forest and another quality program in Maryland, the offers could start to pour in for Lowery, a player who certainly has the talent to warrant many more suitors then he has right now. As a junior, Lowery made over 50 tackles, sacked the quarterback six times and forced three fumbles.
