Ellington Returns From First Official

Illinois athlete Russell Ellington made his first official visit this past weekend as he took a trip to Winston-Salem to visit Coach Jim Grobe's football program. Following his visit, DeaconSports caught up with the 3-star athlete for his impression of the Wake Forest program.

"It went very good," Russell Ellington said of his weekend visit to Wake Forest. "I had a good time with the players and coaches. I felt very comfortable with them and they're very easy to talk to and hang out with. I got to hang out with the players and ask questions about the staff and their stay at Wake. They all had really good things to say about the program."

Ellington, who also holds offers from Iowa State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan in addition to the Demon Deacons, enjoyed his time on Saturday at BB&T Field. "I liked the game day atmosphere there," he noted. "It was a real good time. They played a pretty good game there but it just didn't go well at the end. Really, I like their style of play."

Ellington believes he can fit in well at Wake Forest though he is unsure exactly what position he would play if he signed with Coach Grobe's program. "Wake originally wanted me at outside linebacker, but after getting to know me and seeing more game film, it will be more of where they need me. They've talked about wide receiver, strong safety, or outside linebacker."

Ellington, who was hosted by Boo Robinson this weekend, will visit Iowa State next weekend and will have a decision soon after that visit. "I should be making my decision in the next couple of weeks," he said. "At this point right now, it's Wake Forest, Iowa State, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Those are the four."

"I want to make one or two more [visits] and then I'll talk to my family and decide. When it comes down to a decision, #1 will be education. After that, it's being comfortable in the environment and with the players."
