Looney Commits to Wake Forest

Wake Forest picked up a commitment from Lake Worth, Florida offensive lineman Joe Looney this past weekend on his official visit to Winston-Salem. Looney, who chose Wake Forest over offers from 24 other programs, spoke with DeaconSports Monday evening regarding his commitment.

"This was my official visit to Wake Forest," Joe Looney said of his visit. "First, when we got there we went to the game and watched them play. We stayed at [the hotel] and they took us out to eat, me and my father. We then hung out with Boo Robinson and Dominque Midgett that night and had a good time."

While on his visit to Wake Forest, Looney decided to effectively end his recruitment by committing to Wake Forest. "I did commit to Wake," Looney noted. "I verbally committed there. When I first went for my unofficial visit, I liked it a lot and the coaches treated me real good. The people, the campus, football program, and the team, they were all great."

Looney held 25 offers prior to committing to Wake Forest including offers from major college powers across the nation. Louisville, Alabama, South Carolina, Rutgers, and West Virginia were some of the schools that offered the 6'3 ½, 312-pound offensive lineman.

"A lot of people were saying for me to go to a big school but I saw everything liked and wanted at Wake Forest. I felt real comfortable once I stepped on the campus. I thought ‘Man, I really like this place.' I love the coaches an my mom and dad loved it and we all just really liked Wake. I feel I could get some good playing time at Wake and maybe even step in as a true freshman."

Looney has already qualified for college per NCAA standards.
