The 6-2, 190-pound defensive back has set official visits to Clemson (Jan. 11) and South Carolina (Jan. 18).
"Those are the two I know of. Vanderbilt and FIU have offered me recently, so that's about all that's new with me," Carlton Lewis said. "I'm in the process of trying to set up a couple more visits. Right now I'm trying to set one up to Illinois and I'd like to go to Vanderbilt. There's a chance I'll go to Wake Forest."
"Their campus is probably one of the nicest I've ever been to," he said of Wake Forest. "I really like that their program is doing so good right now. I've been around their coaches and they're good too. It seems like it would be a good atmosphere.
"Coach (Tom) Elrod came to the school last week and talked to me. He's been recruiting me for a while." Elrod has also made himself a major recruiting presence in the Jacksonville area. Will Wake Forest's Florida connection and other commitments from the area help them out with Lewis?
"Not really, I don't think so," he said. "I know they've got a couple of kids from Nease but I haven't really been thinking about what other people are doing. I'm going to do my own thing." Instead, playing time will be more of a factor for Lewis. "I think that might be a difference maker when I'm ready to announce," he said. "If a school is telling me there's a possibility I can come in and play it will help. Illinois and South Carolina have been talking about that."
