Crawford Earns First Offer

Wake Forest offered one of the state of West Virginia's top athletes on Wednesday when Demon Deacon defensive coordinator Brad Lambert called and offered Huntington's C.J. Crawford.

"Coach Lambert just called and offered," C.J Crawford told DeaconSports on Wednesday afternoon. "I expected it was coming. The junior day, they were talking about it and telling me about offering and then sent me an e-mail telling me to call them."

That call produced Crawford his first scholarship offer. "He went ahead and told me they were offering," Crawford noted. "He was talking about me playing some safety, maybe some offense. I'd play wide receiver [on offense.]"

Getting his first offer puts Crawford at ease about his college future. Still, he plans to take a few months before deciding. ""It feels crazy to tell you the truth – I get my chance go play college football," Crawford said of receiving his first offer. "I'm going to take some time and think about it. I want to see what else is out there but I really like Wake a lot."

"I like the academics, the sports," he continued. "Everything seems top of the line. Good environment, you don't have to leave the campus to go anywhere. It is all right there. It's a good place good people and nice weather -- it's snowing here."

Along with Wake Forest, Maryland and Marshall are showing Crawford heavy interest. "I'm going to Maryland on March 8th with my football coach," added Crawford, "and after that I may visit somewhere April 5th and go to some spring practices but I'm not sure where yet."
