"I actually committed today," Matt Muncy said Wednesday evening. The 6'4, 215 pound prospect will play h-back at Wake Forest and was recruited to Wake Forest by Coach Russ.
"I received an offer quite a while ago and was the first person to receive an offer at my position," Muncy said. "Coach Russ, it was his 1st day on campus and it was at junior day that they offered. Since then, me and Coach Russ had a great relationship. They offered 4 other guys at the position..."
Muncy has favored Wake Forest for the past few months and decided that he was ready to make his decision. "I told [Coach Russ] I was coming and he said he can sleep at night now. I had talked it over with my coaches and family and I like Coach Russ a lot – he's my position coach and recruiter for my area. We've been talking since day 1. We've talked about the future once I got there and they want to play me at the h-back position. I'll play some in the backfield and motioning around at tight end slot. If I was to redshirt my freshman year, I would have the opportunity to play right after that."
With a solid commitment to Wake Forest, Muncy is done with his recruitment and turned down offers from two other schools. "I had received offers from Duke and Ohio," said Muncy. "I've been talking to a bunch of schools, UVa, Vanderbilt, Tennessee -- A bunch of schools. None felt like Wake did."
"As soon as I went to Wake, they were definitely #1 by far," he continued. "I would take a visit and say I don't like it as much as Wake. I'd go on another and Wake would be better. I was waiting a little to see other schools and who would offer, but Wake was the best of the places I went. I've been talking to Coach Russ and he said if I was to go ahead and commit, it would help him not have to go out and travel and find more players."
This summer, Muncy will go to Wake Forest's camp though he may not participate. "Coach Russ said I could come hang out when they are having their camp," Muncy said. "Then I can get to know the team and teammates better."
