Thomas Sets Up Visits

Isaiah Thomas, one of the top five prospects from North Carolina this season, talked with DeaconSports on Tuesday about his season as well as his recruitment. Hear the latest on Thomas in our exclusive interview with the Carver High star.

One of the nation's top two-way prospects is a local to the Winston-Salem area. Carver High School star Isaiah Thomas has proven himself as one of the top recruits in the nation with his two-way play as an offensive lineman and a defensive tackle.

Next year, at the college level, Thomas will be on the defensive side of the ball, however. "I'd rather play defense in college," Thomas said. Most colleges would love to see him on the defensive side of the ball for their teams as well.

"I have about 80 tackles and 14 sacks this year," Thomas continued. "I'm playing really well. I've accomplished most of my goals this year and I need just two more sacks and I break the Carver record for sacks in a season."

Thomas shared the goals he had coming into the season with DeaconSports. "We wanted to win the conference and we did that," Thomas said. "I wanted to make the Shrine Bowl and all-conference and I've done that. Now I'm hoping I'm all-state and all-American."

As for his recruitment, Thomas names seven favorites at this point. "My top schools are Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and South Carolina. My top three would be Tennessee, UNC, and [North Carolina] State. Wake Forest is always going to be a top school because it's close." Thomas also noted that current and ex-Carver teammates Matt Brim, Monte Anthony, and Goryal Scales helps the Deacs' cause. "That could really play a role," Thomas noted. "I'm tight with those guys."

As for visits, Thomas has at least three set up at this point. "I have an official visit to UNC, NCSU, and Tennessee and I think an unofficial to Wake Forest," Thomas said. "[The officials] are all in January – UNC on the 10th, Tennessee on the 17th, and State on the 24th."

Thomas also noted that he has a visit planned to Wake Forest this weekend. "I'm going to visit Wake [this weekend]," Thomas said. "So far, it's unofficial, but it could be changed to an official."
