Allen Impressed With Wake

One of the best quarterbacks in the state of Texas is 6'5, 200 pound gunslinger Drew Allen from Alamo Heights High School. Allen recently made a visit to Wake Forest to check everything out and came away impressed.

Drew Allen threw for 2600 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior last season but was somehow flying under the radar until recently. Allen attended a elite quarterback camp in Texas a few months ago and won the award for the most accurate passer. Since then his recruitment has taken off. One team who took notice of Allen's skills before he blew up at camp was Wake Forest. Allen recently took a trip to Winston-Salem and liked what he saw.

"The visit went really well," said Allen. "I met with Coach Elrod and Coach Grobe on Wednesday and we toured the campus and facilities. I really thought the buildings on campus were real nice and the Quad was beautiful as was the surrounding area. I also love the fact that Wake has a top notch business school and I was even able to speak with one of their professors which was nice. I also spoke with Aaron Curry and it was good to be able to get his thoughts on his time at Wake."

Allen also got a chance to see the improvements that are being made to BB&T field and he was very impressed. "Deacon Tower was very impressive. The sky boxes are going to be first class. I could see myself playing in that stadium for sure."

As far as a decision goes, Allen is going to take his time and make sure he finds a place that fits him. "I am looking for a place with great academics and football. Distance will not be a factor and I am really not concerned with the size and tradition of a school. I am going to be spending five years wherever I end up so I am going to do what is best for me and I will go to where I fit in the best. I also want to be surrounded by quality people, which is something Coach Grobe talked with me about. Also, a great relationship with the coaches is important. I am going to take my time before I commit anywhere because when I do that will be it. I plan on deciding this summer and I am not going to keep coaches hanging on until signing day."

Allen will be camping at Oklahoma State, Baylor, SMU, Vanderbilt, and Purdue this summer. He has already hit a one day camp at Oklahoma and visited Colorado and Duke in addition to Wake. Allen currently holds offers from Wake, New Mexico State, UTEP, Purdue, Colorado, Vanderbilt, and Duke. He is also hearing a lot from Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
