In a position where only the elite players receive a college offer before enrolling, Jacksonville, Florida punter Alex Wulfeck has worked hard to earn a major D-I offer. This past weekend, Wulfeck had a great camp at Wake Forest and may be closing in on an offer from the Demon Deacons.
"We were there 8-2ish," Wulfeck said of the camp. "Coach Mitchell worked with the punters. We worked with the snappers on getting kicks off on time, pooch punts, we worked straight away punts, and punts under pressure."
Throughout the day, Wulfeck kicked well and looked to be the top punter at the camp. "I did fantastic," Wulfeck said of his camp performance Sunday in Winston-Salem. "I hit it the best I could do. I felt like I showed what I can do and hopefully it will turn out for the best…It was about like I've done normally but I was [very] consistent. I hit about 50 balls and only miss hit maybe three."
With an impressive performance on Sunday, Wulfeck hopes that he did what it takes to earn an offer from Wake Forest. Wulfeck should know more on where he stands Monday. "Actually, when I was leaving today, Coach Grobe said to give him a call tomorrow. Coach Elrod said that too and Coach Mitchell said that."
If the Demon Deacons offer Wulfeck, the Wake Forest coaching staff can expect a commitment from the Jacksonville punter. "I'm going to [commit] in a heartbeat," Wulfeck said when asked if he would commit if offered. "I love this place. It fits me academically and athletically. It gives the same feeling as my school. The coaches are fantastic. They're the nicest group of coaches I've met."
