Wake #1 For McCarter

One of the best players in a loaded 2010 class in the state of North Carolina is 6'7 wing Reco McCarter. This summer, the wing forward is attending tournaments around the country, proving he is one of the nation's elite players. DeaconSports.com recently spoke with McCarter about his game and recruitment to this point.

Head coach Terry Jones of Wayne Country Day has a special player in rising junior Reco McCarter. At 6'7, McCarter has the ability to slash to the hoop, handle the rock, and finish at the rim. He is still working hard on improving his jumper and overall strength but there is no doubt he is oozing with potential.

McCarter was able to participate in the CP3 camp last month and came away impressed with the camp. "The camp was great," said McCarter. "I learned a lot of drills that I can use and share with my teammates at Wayne Country Day. Also, it was nice to run through the drills with the counselors and I was able to talk with some of them about what I should expect in college."

As far as his recruitment goes, McCarter has been hearing from plenty of Division I schools recently. "I have heard from Oklahoma, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Wake," he said. McCarter made it clear one of those programs is on the top of his list. "No doubt Wake is my #1 school right now," he noted. "It's a great ACC program with high academics and it is close to home. I also like the fact that Wake is a smaller school."

According to McCarter, Coach Mike Muse has been his main recruiter thus far and has been watching Reco this week at the Big Shots Atlantic Slam tournament. "Coach Muse keeps up with me and talks with my high school coach a lot. I have seen Coach Muse here at the tournament and I have heard he has been impressed with my play."

McCarter and his teammates have already claimed one championship at the tournament and will go for number two this weekend.

When speaking with Coach Jones, it is obvious he thinks very highly of McCarter and his game. "Reco has just tons of athletic ability and he has been working hard on his game. I think he learned a lot at the CP3 camp and he has been sharing what he has learned with his teammates."

Coach Jones also said interest in McCarter has really picked up. "I have been getting quite a few calls about Reco. He is going to have a lot of options to choose from when the time comes."

Coach Jones also mentioned how much he has enjoyed his interaction with the Wake staff. "The Wake coaches have been great," he said. "I talk with Coach Muse a lot and he and Coach Gaudio have actually come by our school and watched Reco work out. It means a lot to me that they would take the time to come down and visit our school."

Coach Jones also mentioned he has heard from many coaches at the tournament that Reco was playing extremely well and he was on his way down there to watch and support Reco.

With his combination of athleticism, skill and work ethic, many analysts believe that the sky is the limit for McCarter. This summer, McCarter will have mor eopportunity to display his abilities as he will be playing in the AAU Nationals as well as participating in the Wake Forest Elite Camp on August 3rd.
