Stewart Officially A Deac

One of the most athletically gifted basketball players in the 2009 class is officially a Wake Forest Demon Deacon. Ari Stewart made it official Wednesday when he signed his Letter of Intent. DeaconSports spoke with Stewart about signing with Wake Forest.

At 6'7 and with his array of basketball skills, Ari Stewart can play multiple positions on the basketball court. He has the ability to slash to the hoop and finish above the rim. Stewart also possesses a nice jumper out to the three point line and the athleticism to be a lock down defender.

It is those skills that have Wake Forest coaches and fans alike thrilled to have Stewart on board. Stewart echoes the sentiments and is excited to be a Demon Deacon.

"Man it is relieving," said Stewart. "Now I don't have to worry about anything and I can concentrate on my upcoming season."

Stewart was gracious enough to answer some questions submitted by Deacon fans.

What position will you play at Wake?
I will definitely play both shooting guard and small forward. I can play both.

Why did you choose Wake?
Wake has always been there for me. They were very consistent in my recruitment and always showed me a lot of love. I just fell in love with the campus when I visited. I also got along great with the players. I knew it was the place for me.

Which current Wake players do you get along best with?
Al-Farouq, Ish Smith, and L.D. Williams.

What part of your game are you working on the most?
Right now, ball handling. I want to perfect my ball handling and be able to get where I want on the court. I know I can score so right now I am concentrating on my handles and on the ball defense.

How well do you know Tony Woods and Al-Farouq and did they play any role in your decision?
I know both of them from AAU ball in Georgia. I also played against Al-Farouq in two championship games. When I visited, Farouq shared his advice with me. I think we will play great together at Wake.

Which high school games are you looking forward to?
I would say the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach as well as the City of Palms tournament. We also play Dominquez, California at home this year which is exciting. I know we will have at least 2 or 3 televised games this year.

Which team do you want to dunk on the most in the ACC and why?
Well...(laughing) there are a few. I know players that are going to some other ACC schools so I have a couple on my list.

Thanks to Ari Stewart for his time and welcome to the Deacon family!
