Souza Has Great Season

6'4, 285 pound defensive tackle Frank Souza and his teammates at Nease High School recently finished their 2008 season. The Panthers ended the season with a 8-4 record thanks in part to the play of the future Demon Deacon. Deaconsports caught up with Souza to get his thoughts on the season.

Winning has become a habit at Nease High School. While many teams would love to have a 8-4 season, Frank Souza and his teammates at Nease were slightly disappointed with their season.

"We did pretty well," said Souza, "but all-in-all we could have done better. Our offense was a bit young this season and as a team we may not have played to our fullest but overall I am happy with our season."

Souza is only concerned with wins and losses and did not pay much attention to his individual accomplishments. "I think I played well this season but I really don't know my stats. I am just not the type that keeps up with that stuff. I feel like I did my best this year and I am happy with how I played. Of course it would be great to get some post season honors but I'm not worried about that."

During the season, Souza watched his future teammates at Wake Forest and liked what he saw. "I think they played well this season. Personally, I think they had a few plays go against them and they could have won a few of those close games they lost."

As far as expectations for next season, Souza is ready to work hard and be prepared for whatever comes his way. "I am not goign into Wake expecting to play early or anything like that. I am just going to enjoy the rest of my senior year in high school and work hard to get bigger, stronger and faster before next season."
