Eric McCollom Named 2002 Mr. Football

Some were surprised, most were not. This young man was more than worthy of this recognition in the state of South Carolina. This young man is also showing great interest in Wake Forest.

Up against some of the most talented football players in the southeast, Camdens Eric McCollom came away with the top recognition for a player in this years Mr. Football competition.

Eric was up against such well known players a Lexingtons Demetris Summers, Ninety Sixs Mitch Dolittle, Unions Rodney Kinlaw.

With such tight competition among the nomanies accomplishments on the football field, this years award just goes to show how much the classroom performance and the community involvement count in the final consideration. Not to knock any of the candidates, they all had to meet the requirements to even get nominated, but in the end Erics 3.5 GPA and community involvement put him over the top and earned him this prestigous award.

Eric will savor this honor for the weekend before he packs up and head for Rock Hill and the week long preperations for the annual Shrine Bowl being held at District three stadium next Saturday.

Congratulations to Eric and all the nominees for a wonderful season of football in the great state of South Carolina.

Note: Eric will make an official visit to Wake Forest on January 10th.
