Parks, West Rowan Win 3A Title

Kevin Parks showed why he is considered the best running back in the state of North Carolina. On the biggest stage of his career, Parks put up 219 yards and 3 touchdowns to help lead the West Rowan Falcons to a 35-7 win over West Craven in the North Carolina State 3A championship game.

Parks started the game off with a 81 yard dash which helped set the tone. "My line did a great job on that play and so did my fullback," said Parks. "I just saw green ahead of me and took off. I got a little winded at the end but I was determined to get in."

Facing 7 and 8 men in the box, Parks continued to fight and scrap for every inch he could get. Twisting, turning, and grinding for every one of his 219 yards. Parks also ripped off a 56 yard run in the third quarter.

Parks sustained a high ankle sprain in the second week of the playoffs and was in a boot for much of the week leading up to West Rowan's games against Carver and South Point. However, today Parks said he put it out of his mind and just played ball.

"Today I didn't feel any pain. It has really been hurting but today I came out and just put it out of my mind. I just told myself, no pain."

While many players would have rested on their accomplishments after the season Parks had as a sophomore, Parks said he was motivated to work hard to make himself and his team better. "I just worked hard in the weight room and outside running a lot. I just want to get better every day. I think we have a great chance to do this again next year."

As far as recruiting goes, {arks is hearing from a variety of schools at this point. "This school we played at today (Wake Forest), N.C. State, Virginia, Clemson, Alabama, Duke, and a few more. Duke and Virginia as well as State want me to visit and I have visited Wake a few times, once for camp last year. It is a bit too early to tell but I like this school right here. When asked if when he scored his first touchdown at BB&T Field if he thought that it may be his first of many touchdowns there, Parks responded, "Yeah. Wake Forest is a great place and I am really thinking about playing here."

Parks showed today why he is such a special back. His vision and cutting ability was outstanding as well as his ability to find and hit the creases. He also gave all credit to his line and fullback and was very humble and gracious after the big victory. Parks has said he will continue to work hard in the off season on his strength and speed and continue to try and get better.
