McKie Updates His Recruitment

There is no doubt that the Wake Forest staff has made 2010 small forward Travis Mckie one of their top priorities. The skilled 6'7 swing man recently gave DeaconSports an update on his season and how his recruitment is shaping up...

Travis McKie and his teammates are enjoying a great 2008-09 season so far but still have their eyes on the prize. "We are 14-2 so far," stated McKie. "We should be undefeated but had a couple of early losses. I would rather lose early though and use it as a learning experience. Our goal is to get a ring and we can still do that."

Individually, McKie is producing at a high level each time he hits the court. He hit for a career high of 37 points earlier this year and also recently torched Freeman for 28 including a pair of free throws that iced the game. McKie has had 9 games of 20 or more points so far.

"I am averaging 22 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks so far this season. I think I am playing well but I'm more worried about how our team is doing and us reaching our goal, not how I am doing individually."

Mckie's recruitment is also in full swing. "I haveoffers from Wake, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and VCU. Also, Carolina and Florida are showing interest but have not offered yet."

Mckie addressed the rumors about him waiting on a UNC offer. "I can tell you I am not waiting on anybody. I think that idea started when I did my first national interview and said UNC was my team growing up. A lot has changed since then. I understand that this is like a business decision. I have some great offers right now and I would be foolish to just be waiting on one school. I have a lot of great schools to choose from right now and will make the best decision for me."

McKie mentioned he will trim his list after his season and then go forward with his decision making process, hoping to decide this summer.
