Deacons Offer 2011 SG

Meridian High School is ranked as the #1 team in the state of Mississippi. Leading the way is Rodney Hood, an athletic sophomore guard. The 6'6 combo guard recently spoke with DeaconSports about his season thus far, his recruitment, and his early offers.

Rodney Hood is tracking to be one of the best players in the class of 2011. The 6'6 guard has a sweet stroke, good handle, and a great ability to make everyone around him better. Although just a sophomore, Hood has helped lead his Meridian High School team to the number one ranking in the state of Mississippi.

"Our season is going real good," stated Hood. "We have lost only one district game so far and are currently ranked number one in the state."

Hood is having a spectacular sophomore season and has been instrumental in the teams success. Hood averages 18 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds per game. "I think I am doing a fairly decent job so far. I am leading the team in points and assists right now but when I take the court I like to get everyone involved. I can score when I need to but it's not about me when I play. I just want to win games."

The talented sophomore has no shortage of Division I offers at this early point in his recruitment. "I have offers from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Baylor, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, and Clemson. I'm not sure if I have one yet from Wake."

When asked about his interest in Wake, Hood stated "I am very interested in Wake Forest. I really like their style of play. They are a very good team right now."

Hood has no favorites at this point and wants to take his time and make the right decision. "I learned from players that came before me that you may want to change your mind during the process. I want to take my time and make a good decision. When I make my choice it will be one that I stick with."

So what will be important to Hood when he is looking at schools? "The main things will be the coaching staff, their style of play, and the academics at the school."

With his blend of size, skill, and athleticism, there is no doubt that Rodney Hood will be one of the top prospects in the 2011 class.

Editor's Note: This interview was conducted earlier this week. Hood reports that he was offered by the Demon Deacon staff on Thursday.
