Andre Whitmire and his teammates at Spartanburg High School made big strides this season. In 2007, the team had a disappointing 2-9 season but turned it around in 2008 and came out with a 5-6 mark.
"I feel like the team really grew and got better as the season went on", said Whitmire. "We had a good season all around. Personally, I think I took a huge step this past season and improved a lot. I had over 100 tackles and 6 sacks and was named All-Region."
Whitmire is busy this off season and is staying in shape in preparation for next year. "I am playing basketball now and will do track in the spring. My goal as far as football training is concerned is to just get faster and stronger before next season."
Whitmire's hard work has been noticed by plenty of Division 1 football programs. He hold offers from three of them at this point. "I have offers from Wake Forest, Duke, and I just got one from Stanford. I'm also getting letters from Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech."
A few weekends ago, Whitmire was able to take in Wake Forest's Junior Day and came away impressed with what the Deacs had to offer. "It was a very interesting. Wake is a very nice place and if I decided to go there I think I could make a difference. I visited there last season for the Vanderbilt game. It is a great place." Whitmire made it clear he is in no hurry to make a decision. He said he will go to multiple camps this summer and plans to make a decision after his senior season begins.
