Damon Magazu does it all -- and does it well -- for Providence High School in Charlotte. This past season, the talented junior had 11 picks, 124 tackles, and 2 forced fumbles from his safety position. On the other side of the ball, Magazu has accounted for six touchdowns on offense. For his efforts, Magazu received All-Conference honors as a safety as well as being named 2nd Team All-Mecklenburg County.
"We were very young last year but I am proud of the team," said Magazu. "As for my individual play, my coaches helped put me in a position to be successful. I really like to come up in run support but also do a good job in coverage."
As a result of his outstanding play, Magazu is hearing from a variety of Division I schools. "I went to junior days at Duke, Wake Forest, and East Carolina. I am also hearing from N.C. State, Colorado State, Appalachian State, and Elon."
Magazu seemed to really enjoy his recent visit to Wake Forest. "I really enjoyed the campus at Wake. The coaches there are very upfront and honest about things. They said they will review my tape and may want me to come to to camp this summer which I would certainly do."
Magazu indicated he is keeping his options open at this time but hopes to make a decision before his senior season. He wants to have a "stress free" senior year and hopes to get some early offers. DeaconSports will be sure to keep up with Magazu's progress.
